ALT EFF x Mongabay India
Masterclass 2025

Environmental Video Journalism
May 22nd and 23rd

Are you a video journalist or filmmaker interested in creating compelling video stories on India’s environment?

Mongabay India in partnership with ALT EFF is conducting a free masterclass for video storytellers to produce evidence-based news documentaries.

Amidst the economic, political and social change in India, reporting on the much-neglected environment becomes important. Video storytelling helps us reach wider audiences and narrate stories in a powerful and engaging way.

This masterclass offers participants the chance to learn from seasoned journalists and filmmakers, honing their skills in making compelling, and well-researched environmental stories

Across two days, speakers will cover environmental journalism, evidence-based storytelling, tackling misinformation, and blending filmmaking with journalism.

The masterclass is open to a limited number of participants to ensure equal opportunities for interactions between the speakers and participants.

Please note that the sessions will be conducted in English.
Participants with work experience in other languages are also welcome.

Eligibility

1. Prior experience in filmmaking (2-10 years).
2. Indian citizens whose work is primarily based in India.
3. A commitment to attend all sessions online on both days (May 22 and 23).

Timelines

Mongabay India is a nonprofit environment and conservation news platform that brings high-quality, original reports from nature’s frontline in India. Mongabay India is the India-specific portal of the global news platform mongabay.com.

We have focused on geographies and themes often neglected by the mainstream media. With a vast network of journalists, our deeply researched stories have nuanced and disaggregated the national understanding of the environment - be it about India’s iconic landscapes, plant and animal species, or climate change. Our fact-oriented, well-analysed stories aim to build awareness and conversations about the environment in the public and policy space.
